One I used to tell my kids: "Goldilocks and the Never-ending Shopping Trip" ("Goldilocks went to the store and bought one juicy orange. She put it in her cart. Now she had an orange in her cart. Then she bought a carton of milk. She put the carton of milk in her cart. Now she had a juicy orange and a carton of milk in her cart. Then she bought three ripe tomatoes....")

The key is that it takes longer to get to each new item because you have to enumerate all the previous items, thereby inducing in your kids a kind of semi-conscious stupor, if not outright sleep.
